Join us for our April Third Tuesday on April 15th at the DOC House.

Our Third Tuesday speaker in April will be a Rodney A. Smolla, the President of the Vermont Law and Graduate School.

President Smolla will be giving a talk entitled The Constitution and the Presidency and will be providing an objective and neutral overview of the Constitutional Law doctrines governing two topics germane to the Presidency:

  1. The constitutional rules governing the promulgation of Executive Orders.
  2. The President’s “removal powers,” including the extent to which Congress may or may not restrict the presidential power to fire high-ranking officials in “independent” federal agencies.

Additionally, he was a member of a three-person team of lawyers who argued the case of Dominion Voting Systems v. Fox News on appeal (representing Dominion), after which the case settled for $787 million in 2023.

President Smolla’s full biography is available here: https://www.vermontlaw.edu/faculty/smolla-rodney
